Sir Thomas Mi I ford and Mr. S. HI": Bruce were among the guests at tlio Junior Carlton Club’s reception on Empire Day.

Lord Derby, who presided, exhibited a slioaf of congratulatory messages from all parts of the Empire, including ones from the King, Sir Isaac Isaacs, and Lord Blodisloc. The menu consisted of such 'exotics us birds 1 nest and shark fin soup, but Welsh and New Zealand lamb and Scotch beef formed the’ baclibouo of the luncheon.

At the Royal Empire Society’s Empire Day banquet, Prince George was the principal guest. The others included Sir. Thomas Wilford and the other High Commissioners.

Prince George, responding to the loyal toast,, said that- the British peoples and governments had acquired increased prestige from the reaction in the recent crisis and everywhere the ■eyes of the world were directed to their example. .He added 'that the. Empire . had- justified 1 itself by service to. its. component peoples as evidenced by the members’ resolute efforts to adapt the Empire’s machinery. in their, own States to the new conditions.
