ROYAL NAVY
IMPORTANT CHANGES FORESHADOWED.
CLOSER CO-OPERATION WITH DOMINIONS. (U.P.A. by Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received May 21, 8.15 p.m.) LONDON, May 24. Important changes in the British naval policy are foreshadowed by tbo Daily Telegraph's naval correspondent, Hector Bywater, closer cooperation with the Dominions being attained, the first fruits of which may be the strengthening of the Royal Australian Navy. I.ho whole question of warship design is undergoing review ,tlio replacement at the proper time of obsolescent- battleships receiving special attention. The training of the fleet will bo conducted on more practical lines, demanding an increase in quotas for fuel for practice and ammunition. The tendency to over-specialisation is being cheeked aud specialist officers will in future he required to take their share of deck duties. Tentative plans will be drafted, giving all young officers aud seamen a course of training in small ships such as destroyers before sending them to. the battle fleet. It is believed that this will rniso the navy's standard of seamanship.
