CHRISTCHURCH, May 23

A vigorous denunciation of tile Christchurch Citizens’ Association, and a challenge to the chairman of the association to issue his allegations in a form sc that it could -be tested in the Supreme Court on a writ for libel, were made by the deputy-Mayor. the Rev. J. K. Archer, at the meeting of the City Council last evening. During a lively discussion, in 'indignant terms. Alt'. Archer, who is one of four Labor candidates into ■whose electoral qualifications- an inquiry is sought, charged the Citizens’ Association with hypocrisy and extreme political partisanship. He declared that a letter which it had addressed to the council vas an “expression of hatred against the Labor Party and against all those who support tiie Labor Party. ■ At the suggestion of the Mayor, Mr. D. G. Sullivan, M.P.. the letter and matters relating to jit were referred to the by-laws and finance committee for submission to the city solicitor.
