Miss Cecilia MacTaggnrt, M.A., B.Sc., who has many friends m Hawke’s Bay f ~was irecently appointed Professor of Biology at the Anderson College of Medicine, Glasgow. Professor MacTaggnrt-, who is a distinguished graduate of Glasgow University having gained first-class honours is the first woman to- bo appointed to such a post in Scotland. Professor MncTaggart, a young lady, diminutive,-, vet commanding, .was formally introduced to foe students by Dr. ,Bt;uco Murray, who said: “1 would like to, refer to . a new . departure quite, in keeping, with tbo ; times in the appointment of Professor MacTaggart to . the recently : instituted chair of. (bioipgy at, tho college.” It took tho students some time to discover where their new professor was seated. In the corner, of one of tho benches slio had effaced herself.
