£1,125,000 CLAIM
UNDERWRITERS OF LOST FRENCH LINER’S CARGO.

English, French, and Spanish underwriters who insured the Georges Phillip par’s cargo have started an action for ' £1,125,000 against tho Messageries Mari times- in the "French courts.
Tho decision follows the underwriters’ receipt of the official finding as to the cause of tho disaster, which, it is understood, contains disquieting evidence. The Georges Phillippar, one of tho largest French liners, caught fire off Capo Guardafui on May 16, 1932, and was subsequently abandoned, nearly 100 lives being, lost. Grave allegations were made by the survivors and it was alleged that the outbreak was duo to incendiarism.
In January last, another, of tho sanie company’s largest vessels, PAtlaptjquo, was similarly destroyed, and there were again allegations' that the firo had been started' deliberately.
