HOLE BLOWN IN ROOF. -Making a hole ip the roof of the building and blowing a window frame out on. to a motor vehicle standing in tlic street below, an,. explosion occurred in the top story of tlie- building occupied by Messrs. John Dicks son and Co. (N.Z.) Ltd. } in Frederick Street, off Taranaki Street, on Friday afternoon. Although' a numbor of• >'iu©u and women were engaged in the department at the.time, n<> one was injured. At about 1.30 oKicck; a workman, was engaged in soldering. a inetaß lined case .containing, 'some sheets, of xylonite when the material took fir©, and the fumes ignited and caused'the explosion. Fortunately, the roof and windows, offered little resistance to the explosion.. A small fire that followed was • quickly extinguished- by the fire brigade. ...
Tho accident occurred in the envelope department at the eastern, end of tho building, find• several of the window panes were broken, the readway being covered with glass. The noise of the explosion quickly brought a largo crowd into the street
