(Special to the Times) The first meeting of the new Opotiki Borough Council was held last night, Dir. G. S. Moody, the newly elected Mayor taking his seat and tiro ex-Mayer, Dir. J. T. Thompson, sending an apology, not being able to attend to install him. Mr. Moody, expressing regret at the absence of the ex-Muyor, stated that ho was out to do his best for the borough. He congratulated the old members on their re-election and also welcomed tire new mem hers. He asked for the co-operation of all members in the interests oJ the borough. • When the question ■ ol' the Mayor s honorarium was brought forward, Mi*. Shalloon suggested that the Mayor should say lie would hot accept any, to' which exception was taken by C'rs. Main and Short, they arguing that the honorarium should first ho settled and the question left, to the Mayor to accept or not as lie; chose. A motion by Mr. J. Main that tho honorarium bo £SO, the same as previously, found no seconder, but a motion by Mr. F. J. Short, that no honorarium bo paid, qif tho grounds of hard times was carried, the Mayor stating that be had had no intention of accepting any. Messrs. S. Shalfooii and F. J. Short., wore appointed borough repre-. spiitatives oai tho Opotiki Fire Board. Tho Works Committee will bo the Mayor and Crs. 'S'. Skalfoon, Pat--teVson and Webb.- The whole council is to bo the .Finance Coinmittee.' •
