Alexander Dunn, of Wellington, in whose office she tias been employed as a law clerk for some years. She was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court last year and the degree of Master of Laws was conferred upon her at the Victoria College graduation ceremony recently. Aiiss Dunn studied under Air. Cornish, who occupies tb© chair of English and New Zealand law at Victoria College. During the meeting at GHborne School on Wednesday evening to discuss the matter of the safety of the building after the recent earthquakes. Air. J. S. AVauchop, a member. of the Hawke’s Bay Education Board, extended the congratulations of those present to Air. N. Lambourne on bis promotion to tho position of Director of Education, a position which the speaker felt would be carried out faithfully and well. They particularly appreciated his attendance that evening, as it was his first official visit since he had been appointed. to the position.—Air. Lambourne. in a brief reply, returned thanks -for the kindly thought expressed and assured them that be would do his best to carry out the great responsibilities of his office.

Warm appreciation of ike services of Mr. W. W. Craig as a member wa s expressed at yesterday's meeting of the Cook Hospital Board. —The chairman (Mr. M. T. Trafford) referred to the loss sustained by the Board, and stated that Mr. Craig had always given very valuable assistance with the Board’s affairs, —Mrs. Beer moved that a record of the Board'* appreciation he placed on the minutes, this being seconded by Mr. CG. Bayliss, who stated 1 that never had a more sincere man -sat at the Board table. Finance was Mr. Craig's Art consideration, and he was always at the Board’s service-, especially in the way of committee work.— Mr. F- C. Leggett expressed the, appreciation of country members for Mr. Craig’s valuable work—The motion was then carried with acclamation.
