POWER BOARD

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the P.B. Electric Power Board was held yesterday, when there were present the following: Messrs. F. It. Ball, Thos. Corson, A. C. Steele, M. T.- Trafl'ord, B. J. Holdsworth, C. Mills, A. A. Fraser, H. H. De Costa, C. Blackburn and Er. J. C. Collins. Pending the election of chairman,' the manager, Mr. V. E. Sanders, wag in tho . chair. On the motion of Mr. Corson, seconded by • Mr. Steele, .Mr,, Ball was re-elected chairman unopposed. In acknowledging his Mr. Ball mentioned that,ho was entering on his tenth term in office. Tho working of the board had, been most harmonious and ho could assure members that he would give of his best in the board’s service. The forthcoming year was a very important one in tho history of tho hoard for during it they would reach the maximum demand on the P.4V.D sunnly. The chairman’s honorarium was fixed at £2OO on tho motion of Mi’. Do Costa who referred to tho excellent work of Mr. Ball in the past. The chairman then extended a welcome to the new members, Dr. Collins and Mr. Blackburn, and ajso referred with great pleasure to the roturn of Mr. Corson after liis trip to Australia.

In the course of his response, Dr Collins stated that it was a pleasure to get on a board with finances so sound The chairman expressed warm appreciation of the services rendered by Mr. M. J. White during liis lour years on the board. lie moved that the board’s appreciation be recorded in tlio minutes and conveyed by letter to Mr. White.' The motion was seconded by Mr. Corson who, with other speakers, voiced the sense of loss felt in Mr. White’s non-return. The following were elected, the finance committee: The chairman mid Messrs. Be Costa. Corson, Trafford and Dr. J. C. Collins. ORDINARY MONTHLY MEETING.

The ordinary monthly meeting i\as then held. Llie business being almost entirely of a routine nature. The report of the engineering department included the following paragraphs : “'Water-heating Pilot System. The activities for the month have been centred on this phase of work. 'I he pilot wires and water-heating phases for the West End circuit are practically completed, and. after preliminary tests have been carried out, this section will bo ready to put into commission. The contractors have beeu fitted in readiness, and it is anticipated that the circuit and control system will bo functioning in tincourse <u a few days. ‘•Transformers. —Two transformers, totalling 17i k.v.a., were burnt-out during the month. In the c-ase ot the 10-k.v.a.-11-k.v.a. transformer, situated at Glencoe, lightning was the cause of the trouble, and hi the second instance a line fault on the lew tension was .responsible. Ihe 7-..-k v.a transformer has been reconditioned, and the 10-k.v.a. is under repair. One additional transformer vas erected, adding 7.5-k.v.a. to the line. ’ “Reclosing Switchgear—Pa tutahr and To Karaka Sub-Stations— The re-closing switchgear and auxiliary equipment at Patutahi wag inspected and found to lie in good working order and condition. Various relays wore adjusted lo meet the seasonal load demands. An inspection of T® Karaka sub-station revealed that 011 e of the reclosing G.C-k.v. cubicles was not functioning satisfactorily, and it was necessary to remove the defectne cubicle to town for repairs. Duo to the availability of’ outdoor switching control, no interruption of supply or inconvenience to consumers was occasioned. The cubicle is still under repair, awaiting the arrival of certain spares. The defect in the cubicle occurred in the toggle mechanism, which is. not, however, extensively damaged. The primary batteries controlling the tripping circuit luivc served their useful life, and their replacement will bo necessary at an oarly date. , > “Reconstruction of H.T. Lines— Kaitoratahi Hill.—As the result of reading operations, it was necessaiy t a move a high tension pole further away from tho bank. Consequent upon moving the pole, the high tension lines had t 0 be entirely reconstructed to obviato joints in the span which crosses over tho P. and T Department’s lines. This work v.as effected on April 21.

"Scries Street-lighting Circuits — Testing ha s been carried out to determine the exact current and potential on tlio various circuits, and as a result minor adjustments have been made on the transformers concerned. "General.—Services and extra phases have been run as circumstances demanded. Faults have beenmttended t° where and when required. No faults of a serious nature occurred during the month. .Maximum demand'indicator testing has been cai•ried out as circumstances permitted, and as a result several transformers will require to. he replaced.■’
