A Wanganui Chinese market gardener has discovered a means of keeping the white butterfly off bis cabbage patch. He noticed that the butterfly did not settle on the lettuce plants, so by way of experiment no boiled a quantity of outside leaves ol the lettuce and sprayed the water on the cabbages. The result, lie states, is highly saLisfacory. Diphtheria is fairly prevalent in Auckland city and suburban districts; and about 30 cases are being treated at tho Auckland Hospital.
