The bodies ;of 36,701 dead Chinese were found .in. the streets .of Shanghai, in the Whangpoo raver vrithiu the city -limits, or in Soocbow Creek, during 1932,, according to the annual ■report of the; Public Benevolent Society. The 36,704 corpses buried by the society do not include any of the casualties' occasioned by the Cln.noJapanese lighting last year. AU were civilians, of whom 3088 '"ore auults or' half-grown persons, while 33,616 were the bodies of infants. It is 'surmised that'most of the dead infants were victims. of infanticide. The society maintains a largo force of coolies, ’•wlip ‘"early every morning search the streets,’, alleys and river and [ creek' banks ,of Shanghai for Iho bodies of uucl.aim.ed dead. ;
