May 16, 7.10 - - ‘ PARIS, May 16The -Suez Canal balance-sheet reveals that the receipts for 1932 were £1,700,000 less than, in 1931. A gross dividend 6f 6 per cent was declared. Tho tonnage declined 5.6 per cent, during the year. LONDON, May - Sir Archibald Weigall, addressing th© Royal Empire Society, urged that in view of Britain’s overwhelming interest in the Suez. Canal, British representation on the Board should not be confined to retired private secretaries. The Suez Canal dues-were nearly 25 per cent, greater than tho Panama Canal dues, although Panama cost more, and the running costs were double. American trade to the Ear East and Japanese trade from Asia thus secured an advantage. Britain should assert her interests against the company’s high-handed* methods and excessive charges.
