At the wool sales, 9233 bales were offered, including 1195 from Now Zealand, and about 4224 were sold. The firm tone continued, and. prices further tended 1 in sellers 7 i’avOr. There was brisk Home and Continental competition. The offerings were mostly absorbed. New Zealand salos; Halfbred lamb, slipe, AVAIE Company, top price 11 d average 103 d. WOOL OUTLOOK. BETTER THAN FOR YEARS. “The wool trade looks better now than it has done for the past two years,” said Mr. j. H, Baker, one of the leading figures in the wool trade in Canterbury, when speaking at a bankruptcy meeting, stales the “Christchurch Star.” His remarks were prompted by a discussion among the creditors whether it was worth carrying on the wool scouring and f!ockmaking business of the bankrupt. Mr. Baker said that there was every chance of this enterprise returning a profit. There was at present a good demand for teased wool for furniture making, • The suggestion hag been made to the “At.arlbo.ro ugh Express” by a well-known stock auctioneer that the next few weeks are likely to witness a phenomenal increase in the price of mutton on the Blenheim market. Flo said that, as a result of the dry season. very little fat. stock was now available in the province, and: he believed that before long the market price would have doubled itself. As against this, however, he thought plenty of beef was available, so that there was a likelihood of more hoof than usual being consumed.
