HIGHWAYS COUNCIL

NO. 4 DISTRICT. At a mooting of the No. 4 District Highways Council held in the Cook County room, on Friday, there were present. Messrs. C. Matthews (Cook County) M. Doyle (AVaikohu County), J. McNeill (Uawa County), D. AV. AA T . Williams (AAhiiapu County) and O. O. Thornton, Board’s representative. The following officials were also present:—Messrs F. TRobinson (Cook County), H. L. Tempest (Uawa County) A. Guthrie (Cook County), A. G. Lucas (Waikohu County), G. W. Ring (Uawa County), A. R. Gilmour (AVaiapu County). G. D. Turnbull, assistant road engineer, and C. Hallidav, clerk.

On the motion of Mr. Matthews, seconded by Mr. Doyle, Air. Thornton was re-elected chairman. Tho only application for ihe ;>iinual review of highways was from llie AA’aiapu County Council, the application being as follows;—Rotokau-tuliu-Wniomntntini Highway, O.M. to 7.64 m to he reduced 2 miles; Taka-pau-Ihungia Highway, O.M. to 5.5 m to be extended U miles; Tapmvacroa Highway, 0.M.. to 3.5 m to be extend od half mile; Tikititi-Rangitukia, O.M. to l.om to bo declared a main highway. -After discussion the council decided to again recommend* the first three items lor consideration of rhe Alain Highways Hoard, the AVaiapu County Council agreeing to withdraw its application that, the Tikiriki-Rangmikia road be declared u main highway. The schedules for the annua] main highway o estimates covering construction and maintenance items were considered at lendb and items in ihe extent of £22,900 for construction work and £38,500 f°r maintenance work were passed for appreml by the Main High wavs Board. The council also decided to recommend that the Gishe.rne-Wairoa via Hangaroa Main Highway (Harris’ Hill) be regraded and reformed, the reformation to bo carried out by relief work and the metalling in be provided from the council’s allocation.
