SLY'-GEOG SELLER: FINE OF £IOO (Press Assocuxlion.i GORE, Jan- 24. At the Gore Court to-day James Henry Boding faced a charge that spirits on which full duty was not, paid were found on his premises at Mataura on December 30. Tho Collector of Customs described defendant as a distributor of illicit spirit known as “Hokonui” whisky, which was most dangerous to drink from a health point of view. Under the Distillation Act, any person purchasing illicit whisky, was liable to a fine of £SO, and heavy imprisonment. The Magistrate, Mr Dixon, convicted accused, saying that he bad previously been warned. Accused no doubt carried on in a small way. Bottling was fined £IOO, and given three months in which to pay.
