WILD ANIMALS' RAIDS

BENGAL PEASANTS' FEARS. ELEPHANTS AND TIGERS. CALCUTTA, Dec. 27. Wild elephants and man-earing tigers have lately been frequent visit-ms to the farms of peasants who till the soil at the foot of the Chittagong H'Us in Bengal.

The peasants, consequently, have much to endure. The past, few days have been particularly trying, as a herd of elephants has been sweeping through the villages, trampling down crops and killing any living thing in its path. There are reports that two men have been killed, but communications are difficult, and the reports are not confirmed.
