MONTHLY- MEETING

(Special to the Times.)

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Uawa County Council was'field on Wednesday. Present the chairman (Or. J. Xicoll) Cl's. .1. I, Reeves. !<'. V . Shelton. C. K. Smith. S. King Spencer and 11.l 1 . T. Weeks. I.'enve of absence, was granted to C.Ts. FI. P. Barron and E. C. l.oisel.

The Xo. 4 District Highways Council advised that a further sum of £428 on a £3 for Cl bads hart been authorised.

The Valuation Department. Wellington. advised fhai the Minister in ell a r.go would be attending to .the question of charge- early in Ibe new year.

No. 4 District Highways Council advised that the tender of Qoosman and Co. Ltd. for' maintenance sealing of Tolaga-Taiiwhareparae main highwayds satisfactory;—Tender accepted.

The Stratford Couniy Council forwarded a resolution urging the desirabilitv of the, Government paving nil farmers, rates for Ihe current year. Proposed by the chairman, seconded by Cr. Weeks, that the, resolution lie strongly supported.—Carried.

The Department of Labour notified that a special meeting should ho held for the purpose of deciding what work ing flay in the week shall be the sintutorv half-holiday

Cook Hospital Board forwarded debit note for levies—The Clerk advised that it was included in the payments.

The Minister of Public Works, leewarded authority for the metalling °l the Mangatokerau and Mangntuna Crossing roads.-—Tenders to he called

Secondary Highways: —Tenders for resealing of the Tolaga-Tauwhai'epn-rae Highway have been called and forwarded to the Public Works Department for approval. Tn anticipation of this work, a, start has been made, cleaning out tile pot-holes and getting metal out for the. filling of same. The approach to Dixon’s bridge where it has settled with recent filling, has been made ,up with metal. Aralcihi Riding.—Contract 12-32 has been let, Io Dolman and Co, and is making good progress. further progress has been by’ Ropehana on Contract ,5-32. The men who were working nmder the No. 5 Scheme on Black’s road have boon withdrawn.

Tfatiiti Riding/—Beyond making a dray track “ into the metal recently qua Hod in anticipation of metalling there is nothing to report. It is proposed to get on with the metalling at ah later date.

Mangahoia Riding:—Authority* for metalling on the 'Mangatokerau' road lias come to hand and the work will bo advertised immediately.

Manga-tuna Riding:—Authority for metalling on the Mangatuna, Crossing Road has come, to hand aufl tin's will also he advertised immediately. General: —Works have hem continued under the No. 5 Scheme as usual witli the exception of two weeks off at Christmas and New Yonr. Work has continued at Price’s Crossing getting out river shingle. 'Pile Council team is at presen 1 at Taka pan crusher getting out spawls for metal for file Tolaga-Taiiwhateparnn Highway re sealing repairs.
