Mr. John Wilson, formerly of Ormond, and now of Gisborne, ffiar, 'been compelled to enter Cook Hospital, his many friends will regret to learn. The many friends of Mr. II - H Dodd, who lias been in hospital for the past week, will be very pleased to learn that his condition showed further improvement last evening. Amongst the successful candidates a t the- recent examinations conducted by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, is Miss Tone Adair (Mrs. Leslie), who passed in the Advanced Grade.
A Milan cable states that a message to ecclestiastical and aristocratic circles declares that the Pope is visiting Milan on October 30 for the inauguration of the new buildings for the Roman Catholic Ldiversity. —P.A.

Probate has been granted in the Auckland Supreme Court of the will of the late Major John Whitney, founder and chairman of directors of the Colonial Ammunition C-oy.. whose estate is valued for probate at under £25,000. Major Whitney died on September 6, at the age of 90 years. His estate is disposed of to hie relatives.—-PA.
Striking testimony t«> tin* esteem in which the late- Mr. A. M. Beale was held was given yesterday when the funeral took place at Te Puia Springs. There was a very large gathering and many beautiful wreaths were deposited on the coffin. The service was conducted by the Rev. J. Anderson- of Waipiro Bay. who made a special trip through from Napier, assisted by the Rev. Wanoa. of Kuatoria. The pail-bearer-: were Messrs. A- P>. Williams. W. S. Thompson. S. F. Bufdett. A. Tuckwell. C. E. Nurse and R. Youujj.
