"VERY FOOLISH”
INABILITY TO REMOVE HOTELS WHERE THEY ARE NEEDED AIR. COLEMAN'S VIEWPOINT “Would you favour the umending ol' th 0 Liconsing Act so that a Licensing committee could translor a< licence from ouo spot to another when tho main traffic routo has been changed?” was a question put to Air. D. W. Coleman, Labor candidate for tbo Gisborne seat, at 'tbo City- Hali last oveniDg. j “You all know my position,” replied Air. Coleman. *H vote prohibition and I suppose I ulways will. But, to my mind, Prohibition or Licenso is a matter for the people themselves. If they want liquor they cun liuvo it. I certainly should oppose the introduction of. Prohibition by Parliament. It must bo by the vote of the people and not by Parliament.” Tho candidate went on to say that tho section of the Act preventing the transfer of a licence to a distance of morq than one mile from tho original site in a county was very foolish and lie would lavor an amendment in this regard. While people wanted hotels, it was only sensible to have these places along Hie main traffic routes.
