X.Z. CRICKETERS SHOULD BE GIVEN TEST STATUS.

MC.C. TEAMS SHOULD RETURN VIA DOMINION.

EXTRA TEST THIS SEASON NOT FAVORED.

(U P.A by Elec. Tel, Copyright.) (Special To The Press Assn.). (Received Aug. 18, 11.10 p-m.) MANCHESTER, August 18. A hope that the itineraries of future; English test' teams touring Australia will bo so arranged as to permit of a return through New Zealand was expressed by Leveson Gower at a dinner last evening by tho New Zealand Cricket Council to the cricket writers attached t 0 the leading English papers. . Mr. Donnelly (Christchurch) presided and thanked the English journalists for the courteous and generous manner in which they bad viewed the New Zealanders’ play. Leveson Gower said the New Zealanders had shown that they were worthv of three tests and the best way for the English authorities to prove this would be to send a jull test side to plav in the Dominion. He hoped that arrangements would bo. made so that tb<. next English side going io Australia would return through New Zealand and play at least two matches. Arthur Gilligan supported the idea. Hie said the New Zealanders were as good cricketers ns they were sportsmen and deserved full test status. Rain stopned last night and ’be weather to-day was beautifully fine. There i« a prospect of some play this afternoon. A proposal for an extra test at the end of the four is not favored., as the New Zealanders would certainly be feeling the ellccs of travelling and of their heavy match programme.

HEAVY .MONETARY LOSS TO NEW ZEALAND.

It. is learned that there is no possibility of an extension of trie fixture to August 19. Air. Gilligan, in the News-Chron-icle, says there is no possibility ot a fourth lest being arranged to compensate for the Alanchestev washout. The New Zealanders, are strongly supporting the suggestion that tile English test team, after visiting Australia in 1932-33. should go to New Zealand and play two matches. AI. D. Lyon, in the Daily Express, says the loss in the third test match will ho serious financially to New Zealand. He quotes the manager a<= denying a recent statement that the tour would show a loss of £2OOO. R was impossible yet to say how it would turn out, as there were still, several good matches in the south or England. Referring to the suggestion for another test at the Oval to replace the champion county versus the Rest of England fixture, he quotes Lord Hawke as saving that if the New Zealanders are really anxious;, he is sure the committee would arrange to abandon the Oval fixture if another date is not available. but in his opinion the middle of September is too lat e for serious cricket.
