Powoll said the Boy Scout organisation was not a “one man show. It was easy to make a suggestion bu| difficult to find the people t-0 carry it out. Much depended upon the character and energy of those putting the organisation into being. Even Maleking, was hot.a “one man show” but •was shared by men and. women who suffered so much hut came out on top in the e.nd. Ho recalled the tjme when he visited New Zealand after the Boer \\ ar and when he was presented with-,a piece, of gold plate., an opossum rind some New Zealand furniture, which filled his drawing-room at home, and a Maori charm which the Maoris gave him as they did not need it now that they were subjects of the White Queen. H e recalled the civic reception he had on. that occasion. He had, to be, at the' town hall at a certain hour hut. son he coiild find the Mayor nowhere. Eventually he; found him in a little- hack office and on walking' in the Mayor said, “Oh, you’ve come at last, have you!
