NEW POSTAL RATES
matt, ORDER business WILL BE* HARD HIT DEPARTMENTAL REVENUEWILL SUFFER (Press Association.) DUNEDIN, -Feb. 27. In reference to thq ! new postal charges, various views are expressed. Mr Cameron, president of . the Chamber of Commerce,: said business houses were already groaning under taxation which, with the Arbitration Court operations, tended to drive capi tal from industry. Last year nearly 43 per cent, of the amount collected in income tax came from companies. However, business men would accept the position with good grace, though he doubted if the volume of business would b e maintained. Recently a lot of advertising had been done by ciicular, and there would bo a drastic curtailment of this, with a consequent loss of revenue to the department, and a decrease of hands in printing houses. The manager of a mail order house stated that such businesses would, be hard hit, while another stated that thq raising of the- parcels rate would drive trade to motor services.
