Replying in the House of Commons to a question on the recent communal riots at Benares, the Secretary for India, Air. Wedgwood Benn, said the cpnclition of tho city was almost normal. Within tho week a< meeting, addressed by Hindu, and Moslem lead,ers passed resolutions deploring the riots, sympathising with the sufferers, and -raising a fund for the repair of temples, mosques, shops, and houses, uild compensation for the. injured.
