COMPLAINT BY INSTITUTE OF architects:
NOT SUFFICIENTLY REPRESENTED.

Tlie inadequate representation of architects upon the Building Pegu lations Committee set up by the Government was stressed at a, meeting of the executive committee of the New Zealand Institute of Architects this afternoon. As a result of meeting. the Prime Minister has been urged to appoint several more registered architects. Exception to the personnel of the committee, which is composed of eight civil engineers and two architects, was expressed by Auckland architects on Monday and they also lodged a protest against the preponderance of civil engineers. A telegram which was forwarded to the Prime Minister' at tlie conclusion of the meeting held to-day is as follows: “At a meeting of the executive committee of the New Zealand Institute of Architects held this afternoon, disappointment was expressed that architects were not more fully represented on the Government Building Regulations Committee arid they respect full v suggest the appointment of several more architects.” It was recalled that, at its annual general- meeting held recently, the Institute ;of Architects made an offer to co-operate with the Government in, the preparation of a building code. The receipt- of this message had been acknowledged by the Prime Minister. Similar offers bad been made twice in . 4927 and again in. 1928. A committee which was set up by' the architects is. in Napier and Hastings and. surrounding districts aud. is proceeding with, its report-. The suggestion was made Mr. H. Mandeno, of Dunedin, presitbat this committee, which comprises dent- of the Institute. Mr. F- L. Moodio (Auckland),'Mr. C. R. Ford (Auckland). Mr. A. S, Mitchell : (Wellington), Mr. H. F. Butcher (Wellington), and Mr. F. E. Greenish (Wellington) should be added to the committee set up by the Govern-' merit.
