A verv pleasing ceremony, although tinned with a feeling of regret,'was held in the fover of the Majestic Theatre, after the conclusion of the programme on Saturday night when occasion was taken by the staff to bid farewell to Air. Norrie Handricks, manager of the rthentro. who had been transferred to Feilding. Mr. R./ Graham presided over a full - assemblage , of. the staff, and in a few words in opening, touched upon the purpose of the gathering. Mr. AV. Bishop,’ on behalf or tlie-staff, presented to Air. Handricks a luxurious travelling rug, and to Miss Gwenda Handricks a handsome manicure set,- accompanied by the best wishes of all for their future welfare. The speaker expressed his personal regret at parting with Mr Handricks. for thSr association had lasted thirteen years, and -during that time the had never had a across word. Afessts. R. Graham, Arnold. E.. Dodd re 11, and E. A T osper added their tributes, expressing -personal regret at Air. Handriek’s departure, and wishes -for every prosperity for the future. Mr. Handricks, in the course of his reply, said it was over thirteen years since he first came to Gisborne/' and with the staff of the theatre -they had gone through some good times m the entertainment world, and through lean* times. Through all times, however, his work had been lightened considerably by the loval staff he had under him;-and he felt certain that that loyalty would be transferred to his successor. He was sorrv that he was leaving Gisborne, where he had spent some of the happiest years of his life, and he would always cherish most pleasant recollections of this town. In particular he felt ’the severance of the bonds between the staff and himself, and. he thanked them sincerely for their gifts. Miss Gwenda -Handricks briefly replied, and the ceremony concluded with tho toast of “Air* and Airs. Handricks and Family” being drunk with enthusiasm, accompanied by musical honors. • ‘ .
