DISCOVERY OP-ANCIENT AVORK- ’ SHOP TAVO AIOA SKELETONS UNEARTHED (Special To The Times). AUCKLAND, Jan. 2. Two complete moa skeletons have been found on the AVaihi beach by Mr. H. E. Tonge, of Thames. AH. Ton"e has, for some years, been aware of the existence of an ancient Alaon workshop on AVaihi beach and calculating that the succession of. westerly winds which have been blow m„ recently would have altered the configuration of the beach, he spent part of his holidays searching for cunos. Mr. Tonge was singularly fortunate, for he came across portion of the workShop and found four adzes complete and polished and about half a dozen more in various stages of manufacture as well as several sfone drills used for piercing, holes in implements. He also discovered some particularly well shaped sinkers, excellently preserved. He found the complete skeletons of two moas, which had been covered by loose sand. The larger of the pair was about six feet from beak to toe and the other onlv slightly smaller. Unfortunately, it was impossible to remove them, for the long period of their burial has so acted upon the bones that they crumbled away wnen touched. - •
