COAL MINE DISPUTE
“00 SLOW” TACTICS AT LINTON MANAGEMENT REITERATE CHARGES (Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, Oct- 2 In n, statement issued to-day, the management of thel Linton coal mine stales that in reply to loud protests of the president of the Nightcaps Miners’ Union, that there is no o>gd slow’.’ strike in' the mine, the management is fully satisfied _ that tho miners in the solid working—these being the only miners affected by the regulation in question, are “'going slow’’. The regulation which the company is enforcing in its mine and to which the miners are opposed, is a regulation made under the' provisions of, tho Coal Mines Act, having for its sole object the safety of tho miners themselves. During the day immediately prior to the strict enforcement‘qf tho regulation, the averago output of the men affected was over 0 tons a shift. It has since dropped to under three tons per shift. It is quite fntilo _ to suggest that a drop of this magnitude is due to tho enforcement of the regnlat--10 The statement concludes that ‘the Linton Co. was not responsible for Tife. Press Association message of tho 29th ult. from Dunedin with reference to supplies of coal being obtained from Otago mines. It is true that the company,has made arrangements to obtain supplies from Otago as required. Tho company is not anxious ho ask its customers to accept Otago coal, hut it will not hesitate to do so if the necessity arises.
