RECORD FUNCTION EXPECTED

With record entries and lull bookings of space, both inside and btu, the eighth annual sh/nv of the Poverty Bay Winter Show Association, which opens to the public this; evening at 7 o’clock, promises to create records in all directions. Mr. K. S. Williams. M.P., will officially, open the function at 8 p.m., and . to-mor-row, Friday and Saturday,- morning, ufternoon and night, it will be open to the public. The City Band has bet*n eimao-ed for a portion of the period. Both at the Garrison Hall and in tlie office of the secretary, Mr. YV. M. Bayly. yesterday there were scenes of considerable activity. 'VII exhibits in sewing and knitting had to be at the secretary's office by o o’clock vestei'day. and plasticine work at the hall at the sanm time, this keeping the officials working at full pressure-. Other entries must be at the hall, ready for staging, by II a. m- io-day. ' Throughout yesterday gangs ‘>i men were busily engaged putting the finishing touohes on the hall, erecting side-shows, prenaring trade exhibits, etc., tasks of n?# smoll magnitude. Most of these, however, were completed by last night. In view of the record entries, this year’s, function should prove of inlini te interest. fa.r transee nding ' pasb shows. Tirade exhibits have come from all part.s of the Common, these including many of a nature not viously seen in Gisborne. <3ll the entertainment side. too. the public are entered for in far wider and more diversified fashion than m previous years, the side-shows using every available inch of. space.
