Fdote, *ms also present. 1 , A letter was received from Mr Bfell, director of Education. _ in reply to a query regarding the insurance of pupils against accidents. Mr Bell wrote that the question was a. legal one, and had received some consideration by the Department. which had not been able to obtain a definite legal opinion. The Board is not responsible for th© methods of instruction amt control in the school. It is not clear that the teacher who asks pupils to chop Wood or go messages along a. dangerous road is not responsible. The question of liability had been considered and it was deeded that accidents of this description are hob in the same category as those which occur in class or playground, provided tlier 0 is no negligence by Departmental employees. It was decided that the Board take no action in the matter. The Rector submitted the following report: “On the roll this term there are '454 secondary pupils and 2b primary pupils, a total of 480. The attendance, considering the wcatlio-t conditions and epidemics lately. lias boein good. All the member; of the staff ai’e carrying on they work with zeal and punctuality. There are 51 boys in residence at the Rectory, the same number as last term. The proproom cloak-room, and shower room at the Rectory have been renovated during the last lioh’davs under the supervision of the P.W.D. Miss Prestwick took over tile supervision of the hostel at the beginning of tliis term There my, 2S girls in residence. *’ The report was adopted. The grounds and buildings committee's report stated that the school grounds bad been visited and the committee recommended that the following tree planting be done -(1) Complete row, of planes on north boundary of main school ground: (2) a few suitable trees in the gap along the Stanley Road boundary of the main ground; (3) fill in the gaps in the row of accueias on the new ground. The committee recommended that a paling fence be erected on the boundary by Langford’s, and for this purpose an estimate be obtained from the Public Works Department, it also recommended a number of loads of gravel around the school and on the main drive. The report was adopted.
