POVERTY BAY APPLES

SEA SON ’ S SHIPMENTS

Apples exported from Poverty Bay during the season just closed totalled 13,506 cases, ..a very big reduction on the record total oi' the 1928 season, when 24,431 cases went overseas. In 1926, the first season when exports wore made, the total was 6,896 eases, while in 1927 it was only 4,079. Poverty Bay apples found their wav into several different countries besides the United Kingdom, as the distribution list following shows: United Kingdom 8,084 cases, Continent 1,453, South America 3,023, Hamburg 753, Halifax 93. and Suva 100. The Hamburg and Halifax lots were sold on a c.i.L basis, and those to Suva were dealt with at f.o.b. rates. ■

Two lots of pears, totalling 434 cases, were also exported during the season, those being in the way of an experiment and marking the first occasion when this l'ruit has gone overseas from Gisborne.
