That there is as great a need as ever for the work of patriotic Societies was stressed bv the chairman, Mr Clark, of the Otago society, at the annual meeting to-day, the fact being that men discharged apparently lit were, in their advancing years, crumpling under the strain.
Luring its existence tho society had expended £174.618. The _ committee had considered the advisability of earmarking a certain amount for the future. hut as each year brought larger cla ms it' dare not refuse the needs, of to-day for those of the future. The committee had spent a considerable stun on so'diers in the North Island, who seemed to have had tt more difliculi *ime than in their home towns.
The treasurer reported that the amount now in hand was £45.706. estimated to last at the present rate for 12 years.
