The King has approved that the honor oi liingtuhood be conferred upon Major Henry Segrave, who made the world land speed record of 231 miles an hour on Daytona Beach, and also won the motor boat speed championship at Miami. Some variation lues been ioi ml necessary m the programme for the reception of Sir H. Segrave when he reaches Southampton to-day from America. The liner Olympic, in which ho is travelling has c; countered a thick fog, and only reached Cherbourg this afternoon. She was due at Southampton this afternoon, but cannot arrive there before 8.% p.m. It may be too late for Sir H. Segrave to dine with his friends at the South Western Hotel, as arranged, but be will join them afterwards.

Segis-.-<-had on arrival by the Olympic at Southampton wua> a message from the King sent from Craigvvcll House and conveying hearty congratulations of his splendid achievement. As soon as the Olympic reached her moorings she gave four long blasts of her siren. This was the signal foi a blare of greetings from every ship in Southampton waters. Sir H. .Segrave was taken by surprise l»v this reception, the jdans having ljeen kept secret from him. He looked bewildered as the mayor and distinguished people grasped his liand and he beheld the crowd waiting to escort him to the hotel. Later Sir H. Segrave broadcast throughout the country from Southampton an account of his experience. He arrives at Waterloo Station at 2.-TI this afternoon. when London will give the heartiest of greetings.

Si<- H. Segrave had a great welcome in London. He was met by the Lord Mayor. Sir G. Wakefield, and Sender.- of the motor industry. There was a long motor procession tine ugh the vast cheering crowd to the Palace Yard outside Parliament, where
Capt. Hacking welcomed him on behalf of the Government. He emphasised that 29 manufacturer* had bad a share in ilie making of the Golden Arrow. The least flaw in design, material or workmanship would have led to di-aster. The British product, as usual, stood the test.
The Golden Arrow could not he disembarked in time to take part in tile procession, but is now being exhibited in a large store. Jt is going to the British pavilion at Milan exhibition.
