. The surgeon declared a successful operation was feasible, consisting of the removal of a narrow strip of the flesh of the calf. The anaesthetic failed and .the, girl was fully conscious during the operation, but, after the wound was stitched and’ the girl sent to bed she began to suffer agony, necessitating the postponement of the operation, on the other leg.' ■ ■ < The foot began to blacken and doctors advised that amputation was essential to save her life.’ Her fiance was hurriedly called and underwent the marriage ceremony at the bedside Then the leg was amputated. The girl recovered and is novo suing the surgeon for £4OOO compensation.
