SOCIETY SUMS UP TRADE. (Special To The Times). AUCKLAND, Nov. 23. 'jflio committee of the Auckland Society for the Prevention of Crneltj to Animals is satisfied that enielty of a revolting nature is attached to tho “bobby-ca.lf” trade. Pointed reference to the industry is made in the society’s annual report, presented at last evening’s meeting.
The report describes the handling of young calves in detail, and adds that the' society’s inspector followed the industry right through from the farmer to the works.
"The committee is in possession of detailed information,” continues the report. “It is true ffiat, as a result of the society's investigations, the Government made regulations, which are on the whole being fairly observed, but much remains to be done to reduce cruelty to a minimum. ' “The committee is asking for a conference of representatives of various sides of the trade, with a view to framing regulations to prevent the gross crueltv which has existed in some cases.”
