CROSSING FATALITY.
TRAIN STRIKES WORKERS’ • Lunity;. ONE MAN FATALLY INJURED. THREE INIHOSPITAL. i' ■*. iVreßf AußCjcjatlon^ CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 22. A railway train going to Lyttelton this morning hit a. Public Works Department lorry, containing seven employees, at Wooiston crossing. Samuel Thompson, a linesman, d.etl on the way to hospital. A.; Hisehkie, P. Clough and K. S. Richardson, were slightly injured, but the others were not hurt. .Thompson is a single man residing at 57 Dover Street:- ■ ;At the time of the accident the lorry was proceeding towards the hills. When on the rails, the driver, T. Crawford, saw. the train approaching and he swerved the machine towards Wooiston station in the hope of’- pulbpg iup alongside • ‘ho train. The turn was too late, however, and the engine hit the rear of the truck where the live men were sitting. Thompson /was on the side that received' the force of the impact and was bndlv hurt. The. lorry, which had a ioatl of ladders and linesmen’s gear, was pushed violently forward by the collision and ran over the cattle stops.
