Carriers’ prices mount to dquble tbe normal rate, hut still everyone wants to move on the First of October. More than 150,000 telephones are involved in the move. Alterations to apartments cost / 3,000, OUO, moving companies earn about £6,000,000 and £10,000,000 goes to the furniture manufacturers. Why do the people move? Because of the restless age iri which they live. Because, too, of the desire to keep pace in the home with modern inventions and industrial improvement. The apartment house that was the last word in 1927 is very much out of date in 1928. A residence that serves for a whole year is considered shabby. The old home atmosphere is now something of treasured mem but people nowadays rarely seek *c revive it. The next generation will not know what it means.
Why do these people move on October i Nobody knows. Real estate men and transportation couiyuiies have tried to lead them but failed. Everyone But the people most fence ned favors a date Vhen there is not much moving done.
