GARDEN PARTY. (Special to the Times.) TOKOMARU BAY, Nov. 21. This afternoon a garden party was he'd in aid of the Xmas Tree fund for the forthcoming Anglican Church bazaar. Th? fine grounds of Air. Wm. Oates, sour., were placed at the disposal of the ladies for the occasion The weather, was ideal and this, together with the splendid array of roses and sweet peas and numorous other blooms, added to the enjoyment of the guests. The'guests were received bv Mrs. Andeison. wife of the vicar. 'Mrs. Anderson was wearing lJack «nH white foulard, witlv hat to lonA During the afternoon, two entertaining competitions were indulged in. Tiny paper hearts had previous.y b on distributed among the flowers and shrubs and, at a word from Airs. Anderson, flip guests endeavored to find as many each as possible. Airs. Eoig was the most foitunate, securhearts and Airs.' Thompson 72. Later a “smelling” competition was carried on. From a board 16 small bags were suspended, each bag containing a herb of spice. The lady pi oving successful was Airs. N. Oatas, who discovered the contents of 15 lags. A beautiful afternoon, tea was served on the lawn by the ladies. At the conclusion of the afternoon, gifts which had been brought by the guests, were opened nnd a largo number of delightful and entrancing toys were brought to view. Among those present were Mo-sdames W. Dates, jnr., N. Oates, G. Oates, Johnston, Angus, Grant, Yeoman, Gi'.mour, Carro'l. Day. W. Thompson, F. Thompson, Nurse, Doig, Kay, AlcTnteer (2), Corbett, A. Ransley, J. Bans lev, Leßeau, Aloore, Alorgan, Walker, Steed, Tankard, Watts, Walden, Powell, Moat, Hilherd, Wic : kens, and Were; Aliases Cusworth, Davis, Smith, Wilson. AQUATIC SPORTS. The annual meeting of the Hautanoa Swimming Club was he'd on Wednesday evening, there being a good attendance of members. Afr. E. E Porter presided. Arrangements were put in hand for the coming carnival, which it was decided should be held on January 1. The fo'lowing officers were- appointed: Patron. A. B. Williams, Ebq.; chairman of committee, Mr. F. E. Porter; lion, secretary, Air. Frank Bennett;■ stewards committee, sports and library committee, Captain Angus and Mr. J. Lindsay; judges, Alessrs. F. Adams; entry stewards, Alessrs.-. F. Shine and G. Sliasliey ; ladies committee. Mefedames Cornett, Powell, Aloat and Ransley. PERSONAL. Mr. and Airs. J. S. Nugent have arrived luck in New Zea.and after an extended tour of England and the Continent. Afr Nugent has returned to the Bay, but Airs. Nugent is at present at Nelson. Alls. Jchn AlacDonald lias returned from a holiday in Napier. Air. John AlacDonald is back in the Bay again, after some weeks in the Gisborne hospital. Airs. Frank AVickens is home again from a holiday, spent in Auckland.
