“Nobody believes that .another election is' likely 'and the opinion seems to bo fairly evenly divided as to what Mr.-Coates will do. “Some think lie may fill the vacancies caused through Ministers having lost their seats and call Parliament together at an early date to let those who havo sworn allegiance to no party -give their votes on the all-important question, “Others state that he will resign without risking Parliamentary defeat and allow tho United s to form a Cabinet.

“With the Minister of Education’s statement that the Government lias been defeated and must go out of office, it seems certain that Sir J. Ward’s party will occupy the Treasury Benches. “Those who are : in the habit of pricking the card say that it is certain that the names of Mr. Wil* ford, Sir A. Ngata. and Messrs. Veitcli. Forbes, Rausonp and Atmore will shortly be figuring in the Gazette.”

Speaking at the opening of tdio season of the Island Bay Life Saving' and Surf Chilli on Saturday, the Hon, R. A; Wright, Minister of Education in tho Reform Government, indicated what course- the Government Avould probably pursue as a result of the general election. He said during tho course of his address: “I have been a very busy man, but judging by the elections last Wednesday, I shall soon Lie out of a job. “I shall be one of the unemployed, We take it that the elections practically decided that the Government must resign from office. “We cannot complain of that, because the Reform Party has been in office since 1912, and has had a long run. We all knew that the- swing of tlie pendulum would come and it has come.”
