NEW COMPETITION ARRANGE!

, (Special To The Times). The annual meeting of the AYaiapu Cricket Association was hold at Tokomaru Bay on Friday evening. There wore present: .Messrs W. H« • 0. Johnston, Swinnerton and Hogan (Ruatoria),, F. W. Kerr (AYaipuo Bay), AY. Oates senr. (chairman), W. Oates jnr. (Tokomaru Bay), J Moody (Mata), and J. Oates (Te Ara Ton).

The annual report for 1927-28 stated that the .association commenced the season with £8 8s 3d in the bank and after a quiet season with no home representative- matches," and consequently little expense, had now £l4 8s 9d 'in the bank after paying accounts. The Mata Club retained the. Loisel Cup and Taylor Shield and had added the J)uco Cup to their list of, trophies. The latter cup was presented to the AYaiapu Association last season by the Dueo Motor Service and is a handsome trophy. Mr T. Sheen of. Auckland has. offered a very line shield for competition amongst the cricket clubs in tiie Waiapu Association and has sent along a list of suggested rules regarding tin’s trophy. The Bushy Cur for competition between club second elevens promoted some good games. Waipiro won this cup from Tokomaru and retained it in their match with Ruatoria. Tokomaru later defeated Waipiro and are the nresent holders, Uaianu were unsuccessful in the two matches played at 'Gisborne with Poverty -Buy -last season, one for the Kirk Cup and the other for the right to challenge in the Hawke Cup competition. It is Poverty Bay’s turn to visit AYaiapu this season for the preliminary match in the Hawke Cup competition and suitable dates need now to he considered, also preparation of ground for the match.
