HIGH SCHOOL.
BOARD OF GOVERNORS. ; The Gisborne High School Board ' meeting yesterday was presided over by ill’. L. T. Burnard. There were also present Messrs. C. BlackForn, It. Robertson, G. Crawshaw, F., W. Nolan, H. E. Bright, and T. Todd.The report of the acting rector, Mr ' F. MV. Wilkes, stated that during ; October the attendance of the school had been good. The results or the teachers’ D examination, held. im August, showed that all eight candidates ' from, the school succeeded in passing their vai’ious sections of the examina- -t cions. At present four teachers were ; sitting for further degrees in the university examinations. The attention of the board was drawn to. the state of the roof .where a number, of tiles had bean dislodged and others t were loose, _ and also, the subsidence of outbuildings in the girls.’ . play ground. The condition of the grounds was satisfactory. The shrubs promised by the Conservator of Forests arrived a few days ago.- It was considered. to be too late do plant them in a permanent position,";'and the caretaker had put- them in the nursery at the girls’ hostel till the- next , planting season. The half .of the playing field, nearer the baths was now being used regularly- for .cricket, two matches being played there daily. Thanks were due, to Mr. G. J. Black for a presentation of Patagonian hows and arrows to the' school museum. —The report was adopted,, it being decided to forward Mr. G. J. Black a letter of thanks for his gift. On the recommendation of the visiting committee, the board authorised certain repairs to the roof of the school and the girls’ outbuildings. . Accounts totalling £1,166 12s 3d were passed for payment.
