BOROUGH COUNCIL.

(Special To The Times). OPOTIKI. Nov. I

At the meeting of the Opotiki Borough Council, Mr. S. Moody, Mayor, presiding, a letter was received from the Auckland Aero Cluh asking for partfculasrs of suitable landing grounds.—The town clerk reported that he had forwarded the information asked. Crs. R. L. Carruthers and O. Pipe were elected borough representatives on the newlv-gazetted Opotiki Fire Board. As tlie settlers in ihe Woodlands, estate failed to guarantee £7O per annum for water supply which the council required, the finance committee recommended that water up to 40,000 gallons per annum te supplied to any settler at a minimum guarantee of £5 yearly, provided fourteen or more will guarantee payment, all water in excess to be charged 2s per 1000 gallons, A strong deputation waited on the council from the Opotiki A. and P. Association requesting that the full remission of rates on the show' ground lie granted instead of half rates as offered bv the council. The association had agreed to let sports bodies have free use of the grounds for 20 days each year if full remission was granted —The request was agreed to. FLOWER SHOW.

The Opotiki flower show' was held to-dav in showery weather, the Mayor Mr. *G. S- Moody, performing the opening ceremony. The wet season affected entries, which were not quitg np to previous numbers, though in most classes the quality was quite as high as ever. A large crowd assembled to-night and the numerous sideshows did good business. Tho chief prize-winners were: Roses, Mesdames Neilson. O. Gordon, C. F. Shaw', and Misses M- Young, L. Gordon and A. Johnson; bowl of cut flowers. Mrs. C. Gordon ; basket of roses. Mrs. C. F* Shaw; dming-tahle decorative, F. Harvev- pot plants. Mrs. Merry; miniature garden, girls A. Upton; miniature farm, boys, Ted Upton. The vegetable section was very strong ns were the cakes and scones sections. Tho children’s sections were very full and good competition resulted.
