Y.W.C.A.
. BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The monthly meeting of the board of directors of the Y.W.C.A. ol Boverty Bay was held last week, Mrs li*. Mi. Hutchinson presiding, and' there were also present: Mesdames Wilson, Faulds, W. Barker, b. Olavton, Faulkner, Riacli, Robertson, Stewart, Witty, and Misses Browu and Caldwell. • Many points of interest m connection with the recent meeting of the national Irtiard awaited attention; it Was possible to deal with only a few of these. One of the chief is tho adoption of a secretarial superannuation scheme, which it is felt marks a definite advance in Y.W.C.A. work. The scheme is .a national one, each local hoard and secretary sharing the necessary premium, but in the event of a transfer of a secretary, the new board will take over the responsibility of the transferred secretary. It is felt that when the scheme is in full operation, girls with an altitude- for the work wUI look upon it as a career equal to that of teaching or any other profession offering certainty, of tenure. Tho board heard with interest, the proposal adopted by tbc National Board to invito a young Chinese secretary to this country, for a stated time, to enable, her to visit the associations and give all members a much closer realisation of our.link with China. Other world business was left over to Miss Law, who will be spending at least a month in Gisborne early next season. Members were reminded of the World Fellowship Week, beginning Sunday,November 11. The usual joint meeting with the Y.M.C.A. will lie held on the first day. It Aas decided to ask the Y.M.C.A. to take over tho arranging of this meeting this year, '(’here will be a meeting of all members senior as well as junior, on the Monday evening, when it was hopedthat Deaconess Brand would take the address. Reports from the committees showed that everyone is concentrating efforts on the fair, that is tn .be held at the end of November. A joint committee of representatives of all Hie committees has been appointed the executive for the fair. The general secretary reported progress to date in connection with her efforts to secure tennis courts for Y.W.C.A. members.. A sympathetic hearing had been given to a de'uidation from the Y.W.C.A. to the City Council asking for better facilities for girls in this matter: the result of tho council’s deliberations was awaited with interest. The secretary was authorised to make an offer to the trustees of tho St. Andrews tennis court, for part use of this court, both in summer as well as in winter, so that both tennis and basketball could be practised.
Explanations regarding the changing of the date of the concert, originally planned for October were given. An appeal was made to all members for special support to make up for the disappointment and expense incurred in connection with postponement
