SKINS AND HIDES MARKET,

Messrs Daigety and Co. Wellington, report under date October 26, as follows: “We held our usual fortnightly sale of sheepskins, hides, tallow and sundries this afternoon at the Dominion Farmers’ Institute. Good average sized catalogues of all classes were submitted to a full representation of buyers. Sheepskins.—The market lacked competition and prices for all descriptions were jd to Id per lb lower on previous quotations. The London sales held yesterday have reported a decline and this was reflected at our sale to-day. Salted skins .were firm at late rates with an occasional rise. Hides.—Fair sized catalogues were offered. Consequent on unfavorable reports from overseas,, bidding was not keen and a weaker demand was met with. We quote heavies Rl. to jd per U> lower, mediums Id to kl lower, while lights ruled at par. Kips were in better demand and showed, a slight rise on last quotations, Yearlings were weaker, by Yd. to kl. Calf were in request and weiirhts 1 to 5 lbs sold at par, 6 to 8 lbs being Id lower.

Tallow.—Strong demand at late rates.”

Dry sheepskins declinedId to 3d, while salted showed little difference from last sale.'Hides were inclined ,to ho somewhat ,easier, especially in very light weights; calf skins were also a shade easier. Tallow sold firm at late values.;
