CHURCH SERVICES FOR SUN- ; DAY, NOVEMBER 11

“Tho 1 whole ' Empire has united Kinte ,the. year ;191S,in -commemorating- Armitice Day by, a solemn silence of,: two,,minutes, beginning at the’hour, of ILa.m..in each country, dominion and ; dependency”', the circular ’ ’‘His Majipsty has expressed the wish that in. this present year, - when -Armistice Day . falls on Sunday, a service of commemoration should ho ‘held in the .churches, and the,, government of ; New Zealand trusts that’the several denominations throughout the '.Dominion will, agree partly to .devote their morning services on Sunday, November 11. to that object. ‘ “If those services commenced, as is usual,' at 11. a.m. if would lie difficult, to " observe equally .the precedent ol silent commemoration at the same hour. For : that reason, tho special service at Westminster Abbey, at which this' King will he. present, hag been, by His Majesty’s desire, appointed to commence at 10.45 a.m. During -the service, at the hour of ll .a.m:, ■ the ' solemn • silence' Will ""he observed.- . . . “Tho New' Zealand Government trusts the -Dominion churches will agree to arrange that on Sunday, November 11, the morning service shall, commence -not later than 10.45 o’clock,, and. that in the course of thcfae services the several congregatioris rnay bn-.invited to rise at 11 a.m.-,-.and 'silence be observed for two minutes. In cities or boroughs in which the trams are running on a Sunday it is desired the trams should stop for two minutes at 11 a.m. Tho Government, trusts that all those who are' unable' to attend a church service on that date will, in accordance with' -tlie. precedent followed since 1918,. observe 'solemn silence for two minVrtes af ’IT aim! on'.that date,” The,’..matter came before the .Borough' Council last evening' and it was decided to : .-advertise asking the churches to observe the request of the Prime Minister.
