BOXING.

SAVAGE BOUT. EXCITING MOMENTS. I'AYNE WHIPS SCHAAF. NEW YORK. Oct. IS. “Tiger” Payne whipped Ernie Schaaf in a savage ten-rounds bout at Boston last night. Handicapped by height and reach, and weighing l'2r,t Sib, Payne outpointed Schaaf, “the white sailor,” wlio sealed 14 stone. Payne rushed in the first round with a two-handed attack. He got a hand right to Schaafs ear, but took two jabs in the face and a right upper-cut. He won the round, also the second in which he rushed again. Payne feigned weariness in the third, and, after sparring tired an overhand right to the head which rocked Schaaf on his heels. Both fought figerishly, Schaaf slamming tjie body, and Pavne banging his opponent’s jaw with lioth hands, though lightly. It. was Payne’s round. The fourth was slow and even, but the fifth and sixth were Sehaaf’s. He did some light jabbing. In the seventh Payne pounded Ernie's ear, and swung to hfs ribs, but took two on the face. Ernie jolted Payne with a short right to the jaw and another to the ribs. It was Sehaaf’s round.

FIERCE WALLOPS. Payne loafed in the eighth and ninth rounds, then landed a piston sock on Sehaaf’.s jaw and they traded savage wallops. The spectators became wild. “Kid” Norfolk, Payne’s second, excitedly invaded the ring ’carrying Payne’s chair, and beating the tell by seconds. It was Schaaf ! s round by a slight margin. in the tenth Schaaf was weary. Payne fought like a typhoon. Thrice ho pounded Schaaf’s stomach, then with his right rocked Schaaf’s head. It was Payne's round. Payne won the bout, and the crowd cheered him at the finish.
