CONTINUED- SUCCESS AT OPERA ? " . HOUSE.";

The haunting music, catchy choruses, charming solos and smart and irresistibly humorous dialogue of “The Arcadians” delighted another large house at the Opera House last night.’ The work of the Gisborne Amateur Operatic. Company in staging the- play, revealed a higli; standard of histrionic ability,' that was fully appreciated by the-largo audience. The production was greatly, enhanced by tlie scenic lighting anti costuming, which were in keeping with the general excellence of the play! The .part of the charming and vivacious, Eileen Cavanagh is played with' conspicuous ability by Mis* M Corson, who captivated her audience with her sweet voice and personality. She was very successful m txvo ‘solo numbers. “Bring Me a Rose” and “The Girl With the Brogue” and in her duets with Mr W. ' Bignell. Her successful suitor, Mr. Bignell, as Jack Meadows, was near-d to advantage, in “Fickle Fortune” and “The 'Only Girl Alive”. Mr. A. Zachariah, as James Smith, the London caterer who becomes, an Arcadian temporarily, and is given the name! of Simplicitas, and Mr. T. Moffatt as Peter Doody, the'melanchoh 7 * jockey / share the comedy work, and, both scored a great success. The role of Sombra, a missionary from Arcadia, was capably filled by Mrs. J. Dver. Possessing a delightfully modulated voice-, she rendered delightfully “Come Back to Already,” tind two other delightful solos which were warmly received. Miss G. Fanning filled the part of Ohrysaea with charm, and was heard to advantage in “I Like London,” -while Mtss Enid Hooper’s interpretation of the part of the gushing Mrs. James Smith was refreshing in its humor. The role of Bobby, a friend or Jack Meadows, was taken by Mr. J. Turbitt,. who scored with his solo “Back Your Fancy.” Mr. A. J. Nicol played the part of Sir Georg© Paddock with much ability, and Mr. W. Hamilton Irvine gave a fine portrayal of Father Time. In the minor warts the performers- acquitted themselves with marked ability, and the success of the production was due to them in no small measnvo

“The Arcadians” will be repeated to-night.
