BURGLARY AT SHALFOON BROS

(Snccial To The Times). OPOTIKI, Oct, 23. Burglars broke- into Shalfoon Bros' store. Church Street, Opotiki, last i light, an entrance. being gained through a skylight. Distinct marks of boots were shown on goods in the fixtures as the visitor made his way clown to th.e floor. No cash Was taken, but two watches, arc missing, and it is hard to say what other goods wore stolen. PERSONAL. Cabled advice lrom Aberdeen reports the death of Miss M. M. Gordon, sister of Mr Charles Gordon, Opotiki, at the age of GO years. Miss Gordon was for eleven years a~ resident of Opotiki, Put left for Scotland last year to look after her. sister, who had met with a motor accident. RIFLE SHOOTING. I At the annual meeting of the Opotiki Rifle Club Mr G. F. Joblin, president, was in the chair and there was a good attendance of members. Mr G. F. Joblin was re-elected president and Mr AV. Sydenham lion, secretary. It was decided to hold a prize competition on the second Saturday of each month. A rifle match lived between teams from the Rangitaiki, Opotiki A Whakatano Rifle Clubs at Thornton yesterday, ten shots each at 200 and 600 yards, resulted in a win for Rangitaiki. Following are , the scores:—Rangitaiki: Moore 93, Mrs Moore SS, President McFarland 87, Wilson 86, l'nncs SI —total 435. Opotiki team: President Joblin S 3, G. Lambert, S 9. C. Hollard S 7. A. Holla rd 84, Butler S3—total 430. AVhakatane—Newton 89, President Curtis 86, Armstrong 85, Moore 85, Koeley 8-1 —total 429. LABOR DA A' SPORTS. Labor Day in Opotiki was spoiled for outdoor sports by wot weather, but a most successful snorts meeting was hold at Margenui amongst the Public Works and bridge contractors’ employees, a good number of visitors being' present from Opotiki and places on the coast. NEW THEATRE OPENED. The now Regent Theatre, which has been built by Messrs MeGrevy brothers in Opotiki. to take the place of the old Alhambra Theatre, which lias done duty for many years, was opened by the Mayor, Air G. S. Moody, on Saturday night, there being a packed house and large numbers were turned away.
