COATES’ CABINET.
MR CLAYTON’S CRUDE COMMENT HON. K. S. WILLIAMS’ IN GENTLE MOOD (Special to the Times.) TOKOMARU BAY, Oct 22. When he came to the concluding stages of his address here to-night, the Hon. K. S. Williams mentioned that Mr W. Lissant Clayton, the United party candidate for the Cisboms seat, had gone out of his way to say at one of his meetings that only two members of the Coates’ Cabinet had brains. (Laughter and Ohs). “I admit” said Mr Williams, “that I am only human and that I may not have great mental qualifications. But I do know this: that I have a good knowledge of the hardships of the backblocks settlors. Both my wife and 1 know all about that. Even -if' I have no other qualifications for my position in Cabinet I know what it means when settlers lack roads and other communications. What is more I always try to do my best to improve the lot of others.” Mr Williams’ gentle rebuke of Mr Clayton was loudly applauded.
