SERVICES AT CENOTAPH

The; celebration of Armistice Day, November 11, which falls this year on Sunday, will folloiv the lines adopted in previous years. A representative detachment of f he Royal Aavy. Amiy, All Force, Mercantile Marine, and ex-servicemen's associations will march to the Cenotaph in the morning, and there term a hollow square. Shortly before II o’clock, the King will deposit a wreath on the Cenotaph, and wreaths will be laid on behalf of other members of the Royal Family, and also on behalf of the British Government, the Dominions, India,. Colonies and Protectorates. Two minutes’ silence will be observed, and a short service will follow. The official deputation, bearing wreaths,, and the general public, will be marshalled into columns, moving from Whitehall towards Westminster -o that they may deposit wreaths on (he Cenotaph as they pass, and arrangement's will be made so that these who so desire may pass through Westminster Abbey before the grave of the Unknown Warrior.
Ecclesiastical authorities have been asked to arrange that their church services shall begin at such an hour as mav be convenient in order to ensure that there shall be everywhere a pause in the service at* 11 o’clock, when silence will be observed in every place of worship. Road traffic, will, as usual, be suspended during the two minutes’ silence. GISBORNE ARRANGEMENTS. Convened by the Gisborne Navy League, a meeting was held in the Borough Council Chambers last evening to discuss the matter of holding a, °jeace demonstration on Armist'ce Da.,-, Sunday, November 11. The Mayor (Mr I). W. Coleman) presided and there were present: Mesdomes Goffe and Walker, Rev. Jas. Aitken, Major R. F. Oambrill, and Messrs T. Todd, C. A. deLautour, T. i'r. Lawless, C. E. Bickford, and W. G. Sherratt. Apologies for absence were received from Father Murnu Rev. 0. Frost, Mr L. Y. Tong and Rev. Ct Alhvright. Mr Todd was elected secretary. Mr Todd explamed that the proposed demonstration was to further the promotion of peace and the outlawry of war. He moved: “That libs meeting decides to hold on Armistice Day a demonstration in favor of peace and invites all sections of the community of ,all shades ol opinion to co-operate to make the demonstration a success.
The motion was seconded by Major Gam brill and carried unanimously. On the motion of the Rev. ,J. Aitken it waif; decided that the ceremony should take the Grin of two hymns, a Scripture reading, and _a. short praver /and then a resolution supporting the outlawry of war. The Mayor, the Rev. J. Aitken. and Messrs C. E. Bickford, C. A. deLautour, and T. Todd were appointed a committee to finalise the arrangements.
