LADIES’ GOLF MATCH,
(Special to the Times.) TOKOMARU BAY. August 11. Ga Friday last a team of seven ladies journeyed to tho Bay for a friendly game with a similar team of ladies from Tolaga Bay and TokoIrani Bay. The players arrived from tiie south about 10 o’clock and partook of morning tea before commencing the games, which concluded in the vicinity of two o’clock. The result of the day’s play was a draw, seven games all. The final issue was most interesting as the Coast ladies had won seven games to six and wore anxiously awaiting the last pair when a win or draw would have put them in the lead. Unfortunately for them it was not so, the Gisborne .•flavor coming in a winner. Before departure the Gisborne caplain heartily thanked their hostesses for the most enjoyable and pleasant bty’s outing. Responses were made b-‘ Mr. Patterson (Tolaga Bay) and Mr. Ramsay (Tokomaru). Hegartv lost to Mrs. Murphy (Tokomaru); Miss ,M. Hcg-a-rty boat Mrs. Hockley (Tokomaru).
PERSONAL. Mrs. T. Larkins is at present spending a ho'idav with her daughter in the Te Puke district. Mr D M. Stirton, Bank of New ■’outh Wales, has received notice of his transfer to Auckland. His position locally will be filled by Mr. B. E. Nalder, now of Auckland. HICK’S BAY HARBOR BOARD. At the monthly meeting of tho Hick’s Bay .Harbor Board, held at Te Ai-nroa, there were present Messrs 'King■ F. Reed (chairman), A % E. Kenip.' C. Williamson, A. 0. Wood, It. G. Saxby, o.' W. Cowan, R. T. Roller*, and H. K. Hovell.
Captain J. W%. H. - flolmes. of Gisborne, wrote inquiring whether the harbor locomotive was for sa'e—Captain Holmes is tpNie offered,the. locomotive at a price of £575 f.o.b. Hick’s Bay. The secretary of the Marine Department wrote requesting the board to assist his department bv having tils secretary furnish the Collector of Customs at Gisborne with monthly shipping reports in respect of tho harbor.—The request was agreed to. Tho Minister of Public- Works' advised that the hoard’s request for the sotting aside of th? Poroporo block or other lands as a harbor endowment- was not favorably entertained by the Minister of Lands.—-Received. "The chairman was authorised to enter into negotiations with the Gisborne Sheepfanners’ Co. for the purchase of a cottage for removal, or ns an alternative, for material for the building of a cottage suitable for the wharfinger.—The chairman pointed out that a site for the wharfinger’s house would have to bo acquired at once and it was decided that the engineer confer with the wharfinger with a view to selecting a site. Mr Williamson stressed the need of having the proposed shed site excavated at once.--—The engineer was instructed to lay the site off and arrange for .the excavating. Accounts amounting. to £241 4s were passed for payment
